Offaly students receive Platinum Award from Microsoft Ireland

Students from Gaelscoil na Laochra Birr on their visit to Microsoft headquarters.

THE students from Rang 6 in Gaelscoil na Laochra in Birr had a very special day recently when they were invited to Microsoft Headquarters in Dublin to receive a Platinum Award for their coding skills and their self-made video documenting their class work in this area.

Earlier in the school year, the students had been chosen as Microsoft Dreamspace Ambassadors which involved them teaching coding and technology to their peers and producing a video to document their work throughout the year.

The students gave an excellent presentation to the team at Microsoft on their video documenting their coding development throughout the year and were delighted to receive the highest accolade possible for their work.

The students were also delighted to hear that the team at Microsoft were so impressed with their work and its bilingual presentation that they asked the school if their video could be used by Microsoft in the future.

Gaelscoil na Laochra are very proud of their achievements and the support of their class teacher, Colm ó hAnluain, who himself is no stranger to innovation as presenter of ‘Na hInnealtóirí’ on TG4. With their recent success, we look forward to seeing what the future holds for these young innovative students!
