An indoor soccer tournament was held recently in Coláiste Phobal in Roscrea which was organised by members of the local Gardaí in Roscrea and Nenagh with the residents of local Direct Provision centres.

Somalia, Algeria, Nigeria, Zimbabwe and Georgia were all represented. and the tournament was competitive throughout and was played in a great spirit with Nigeria winning out on the day.

“Thanks to Coláiste Phobal who afforded us the use of the facilities on the day and are always supportive of any events” the local Gardaí said.

The unique event was described by local soccer players as like "a mini world cup" and saw local players try their skills against men who are passionate soccer fans and currently living in the direct provision facility located in Corville House at Sean Ross Abbey.
