Offaly residents warned over man 'trying cars' late at night

Residents in one Offaly town are on alert after a would-be thief was spotted on camera trying to open the doors of cars. 

Recent incidents have been reported with one caught on camera this week in the Gilroy Avenue area of Edenderry, Co Offaly. 

A security camera video shows a man approach a car parked outside a house on a bicycle. He then attempts to open the driver side door of the car.

The car was locked but the man then appeared to attempt the same thing at a car at an adjoining house. Residents in the area are now on alert with locals being told to make sure their cars, homes and sheds are locked up at night to avoid casual thieves.

Similar incidents were reported in a separate area of the town late last year when similar activity was reported with an individual gaining entry to a number of unlocked sheds.

Locals should be vigilant for similar suspicious behaviour.
