The TY cast of 'Oliver' at Colaiste Naomh Cormac.
THE Transition Year students of CNC Kilcormac delivered a dazzling production of the beloved musical ‘Oliver!’ last week, leaving audiences thoroughly impressed by their talent, energy, and hard work.
The show opened with a stirring rendition of “Food, Glorious Food,” setting the tone for an evening filled with vibrant performances and timeless songs. The cast’s ability to bring Dickens’ classic characters to life was remarkable, with standout moments including “Consider Yourself” from the Artful Dodger (Seán Cleary) and the heartfelt “As Long as He Needs Me” by Nancy (Hannah Rosney). The students’ dedication and passion shone through every note, step, and line.
A special mention must go to the lead performers, whose portrayals of Oliver (Aisling McLoughlin), Fagin (James Lynch), Dodger (Seán Cleary) and Nancy (Hannah Rosney) were nothing short of brilliant. Their commitment to their roles and their ability to convey the emotional depth of the story captivated the audience. The ensemble also deserves high praise for their synchronisation and infectious energy in numbers like “Oom-Pah-Pah” and “You’ve Got to Pick a Pocket or Two.”
The success of this production would not have been possible without the guidance of the dedicated teachers, in particular Ms Browne, Ms Meagher and the TY co-ordinator Mrs Cornally and all the staff who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, ensuring the show ran smoothly. From the intricate choreography to the stunning set design and costumes, their efforts brought the world of Victorian London vividly to life.
A heartfelt thank you must also go to our incredible Parents’ Association, whose tireless efforts were instrumental in the success of the production. From organising refreshments to supporting fundraising initiatives and assisting behind the scenes, their contributions helped create a truly memorable event. Their dedication and encouragement were deeply appreciated by both the students and staff.
We also extend our gratitude to the local community, whose attendance and enthusiastic support made the performances even more special. The involvement of our feeder schools, whose students attended the matinee performance of our show, added to the lively atmosphere and underscored the strong community spirit that surrounds CNC Kilcormac.
Congratulations to all involved in this remarkable production of ‘Oliver!’ The show was a testament to the hard work, creativity and collaboration of everyone involved and will be remembered as a highlight of the school year.
