Cash seized in begging offence in the Midlands donated to local charity

A Judge ordered that hundreds of euros seized from an individual for begging offences be given to a local charity. 

Garda Superintendent Declan Dunne brought a Police Property Application before Portlaoise District Court in relation to a sum of €849.65 which was seized from an individual by gardai on December 5, 2021.

Garda Sergeant Rowan Casey said the money had been seized in relation to a begging offence. He told the sitting of Portlaoise District Court that an individual was prosecuted but they had since passed away. 

Judge Susan Fay ordered that the money be donated to St Vincent de Paul in Portlaoise.
