Woman pleaded guilty at Tullamore District Court

A WOMAN was prosecuted after gardai saw a car slowing down and speeding up on a road in Offaly.

Fiona Maddigan (63), Slade Castleview, Moneyatta Commons, Saggart, Dublin, pleaded guilty to driving without a licence at Urney, Cloneygowan, on March 18 last.

Sergeant Richard Thornton told Tullamore District Court that Ms Maddigan was a disqualified driver at the time of the offence.

At 6.37pm on March 18 gardai saw a 242 Dublin registered Toyota Yaris with its driver door not closed properly. The vehicle was slowing down and speeding up.

Sergeant Thornton said Ms Maddigan had been disqualified from driving in 2022 for four years and had previous convictions for dangerous driving, not providing a sample and drink driving.

Ms Maddigan told the court it had been an oversight on her part to drive that day because she thought she had received a two-year ban.

Judge Cody said that with three convictions in relation to intoxicated driving it could not have been an oversight.

He imposed a fine of €750 and disqualified her from driving for one year. She was given three months to pay the fine.
