Dublin exiles collect €30,000 for Offaly GAA

The fifth annual Offaly Association in Dublin golf classic took place on Thursday and Friday, the 4/5th of September at Palmerstown House Estate, Naas and again proved a massive success with 56 teams registered to participate

This annual event raises in the region of €30,000 for the development and promotion of Gaelic games in Offaly and this year's event was another big success. The organising committee wish to offer a big thank you to all the teams who participated along with all those who contributed by sponsoring a tee box.

The importance of sponsorship in running an event like this cannot be over emphasised, and the organising committee wish to thank the Celt Bars and Restaurants, Talbot St. Dublin which is owned by Coolderry native, Noel Tynan for his generous sponsorship.

The main prizes were once again sponsored by the Bridge House Hotel , Tullamore in conjunction with Tullamore Golf Club, Kinnitty Castle, Kinnitty in conjunction with Esker Hills Golf Club. , along with Mylyn in conjunction with Palmerstown House Estate Golf club.

The organising committee also wish to acknowledge the contributions from Loughlin Murphy of Toyota Sandyford Dublin, Tom Mangan of the Mangan Group, Dublin. Tim Quinlan of Graphic Designs, Declan Glynn of Wellington House Dorset St, Dublin, Dan Sheehan, Cill Airne Restaurant, North Wall Quay, Dublin, Offaly GAA County Board, Dublins Own Whiskey, Alan Gilson, along with the following golf clubs, Palmerstown House Estate, Edenderry, Craddockstown, Newlands and Roscrea.

The organising committee would like to thank Tom Parlon, Brendan Minnock and Frank Fitzpatrick the Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer of the Offaly GAA county Board for their presence and assistance at this years golf classic.

The organising committee of the golf classic were : - Fintan Lalor ( Chairman), Alan Gilson, Ray Flannery, John Neylon, Willie Burns, Noel Tynan ( Sponsor), Darragh Scully and Liam Fleury ( Secretary / Treasurer).

The winning team was captained by Eddie Gowran, a Tullamore native who emigrated to New York 31 years ago and is now a successful business man there. He is one of the emigrants keen to support Offaly GAA in this way and the Association are very thankful to him and all others.

3rd – ALLPRO Recruitments: John Kenny, Tom McDermott, Anthony Murphy, Brian Morrissey 56.3 4th 4th – Liam Mooney team: Liam Mooney, Derek Mooney, Wayne Mooney, Michael Dfuignan 56.5

5th – Liam Hanlon team: Mick Wright, Liam Hanlon, Sean McNamara, David Hanlon

6th – Toyota Sandyfort: Dan Sheehan, John McCormack, Paul Sheehan, Fran Hurley 57.4

7th – Liam Grogan team: Liam Grogan, Tony Salmon, Tim Fulcher, Mark Kennedy

8th – Osbourne Denieffe Solicitors: John Cleary, Eugene Kelly, Raymond Quinn, Eamonn Denieffe 57.7
