A 41-year-old pedestrian has died after a road crash in North Lanarkshire, police said.
The woman was hit by a silver Ford Fiesta in the Crossgates area of Bellshill at about 9.30pm on Friday.
Emergency services attended and she was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.
A 36-year-old man who was driving the car was arrested in connection with road traffic offences and was later released pending further inquiries.
The road was closed and later reopened at about 4am on Saturday.
Sergeant Andrew Coutts said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who died and inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.
“We are asking anyone who saw what happened to get in touch. If you have dash-cam footage that could assist with our investigation, then please contact us.”
