Body found in search for man who vanished nearly a fortnight ago

Police have recovered a body from water amid the search for a man who disappeared almost two weeks ago.

Officers found the man’s body at around 11.25am on Tuesday near the River Tay, south of Perth.

Formal identification has yet to take place but the family of the missing man John McNeil, 52, have been informed.

The death is being treated as unexplained but is not believed to be suspicious, and inquiries are ongoing.

A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

Mr McNeill was last seen in Stanley Crescent, Perth, at around 9.10pm on Friday December 27.

Police Scotland previously launched “extensive inquiries” to trace him.
