Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with a spate of deliberate fires in Edinburgh.
The 18-year-old and 17-year-old were held in connection with alleged wilful fire-raising in the city in March and April, which Police Scotland has said was linked to the “recent discharge of firearms” and other fire attacks in the capital.
The pair were arrested in connection with a blaze which occurred in Hay Drive in the Niddrie area on April 4 at around 1.20am. The fire spread to a neighbouring property and caused “substantial damage” to both homes, police said.
The 18-year-old has also been arrested in connection with a fire in Albert Street on March 6 and the wilful fire of a vehicle in Parrotshot on March 2.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Inquiries are ongoing into the incidents, which are linked to the recent discharge of firearms and other fire-raising incidents in the city. A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
A 24-year-old man was earlier arrested and charged over a fire in Albert Street on March 6 and in Milton Road East on March 16, also believed to be linked to firearms and deliberate blazes.
Detective Superintendent Paul Grainger said: “I want to reassure the community that extensive inquiries are ongoing into this investigation and arrests will continue over the coming weeks.
“If you have any information that can assist our investigation, please get in touch.”
