Residents urged to keep windows closed amid blaze at industrial estate

Firefighters are battling a blaze at an industrial estate in Glasgow.

Nearby residents in Kinning Park have been urged to keep their windows and doors shut to prevent smoke inhalation.

Members of the public have been told to avoid the area as Stanley Street and Milnpark Street remain closed.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at around 6.45am on Thursday to reports of a fire at a commercial building.

Nine fire trucks, alongside two high-reach vehicles, attended the blaze in a “single-storey storage unit”.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters remained at the scene on Thursday afternoon.

A spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 6.46am on Thursday July 31 to reports of a commercial building fire at Stanley Street, Glasgow.

“Operations control mobilised nine appliances and two high-reach vehicles to the scene, where firefighters have been working to extinguish a fire affecting a single-storey storage unit.

“As a result of ongoing firefighting operations and progress made, we have now scaled back our response to three appliances, an aerial vehicle, and specialist equipment.

“There are no casualties, and crews remain on scene.

“Members of the public are advised to stay away from Stanley Street and Milnpark Street, which remain closed, and residents should continue to keep windows and doors closed to avoid smoke inhalation”.

Police Scotland said: “Emergency services are responding to a fire on Stanley Street, which was reported around 7.10am on Thursday July 31.

“Milnpark Street is currently closed at the Admiral Street and Portman Street junctions.

“Drivers and pedestrians are asked to avoid the area.”
