One man dead and two taken to hospital after flat fire

One man has died and two others were taken to hospital after a fire at a flat in Argyll and Bute.

Emergency services were called to the address in Lochnell Street, Lochgilphead, at about 7.45am on Sunday.

One man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin are aware.

Two other men were taken to hospital for treatment.

Police said streets surrounding the property remain closed to motorists and pedestrians, including Lochnell Street, Union Street and Campbell Street.

Local residents are also being advised to stay inside with their windows and doors closed.

Detective Inspector Peter MacMillan said: “Our thought are with the family and friends of the man that has died in this fire.

“Our investigations into the cause are ongoing but it does not appear to be wilful.”
