Crewe miss chance to move into top four following Harrogate draw

Crewe missed the chance to go fourth in Sky Bet League Two after being held to a 1-1 draw by struggling Harrogate.

The Railwaymen finished strongly at Wetherby Road having found themselves behind at the interval, but stay fifth following a third game without a victory.

Harrogate defender Bryant Bilongo’s poor attempted back-pass gifted Chris Long the chance to open the scoring but he cleared the crossbar with just goalkeeper James Belshaw to beat.

Josh March then fired the hosts ahead after 29 minutes, scoring from six yards when Crewe failed to deal with a corner.

Bryn Morris almost doubled the home side’s lead on the stroke of half-time, rattling the woodwork with a half-volley.

Levi Sutton went close to making it 2-0 from distance early in the second period before Long levelled in the 58th minute, nodding home Matus Holicek’s cross from close range.

Belshaw was then required to make big saves to deny Omar Bogle (twice) and Tom Lowery as Crewe pushed for a winner, but Harrogate held on.
