Ethan Wheatley and Sam Hoskins on target as Northampton clinch comeback win

Ethan Wheatley and Sam Hoskins were on target as Northampton came from behind to record a 2-1 League One win at Doncaster.

Goals from on-loan Manchester United striker Wheatley and long-serving Hoskins saw Town turn the game on its head in the second half after Ben Close handed the hosts a half-time lead.

There was little between the two sides in the first half with Tyrese Fornah going close for Northampton, while Glenn Middleton was twice denied by Town goalkeeper Ross Fitzsimons.

But Doncaster took the lead after 36 minutes when Close’s shot on the turn deflected home off Michael Forbes.

Northampton were level two minutes into the second half when Wheatley turned in a Dean Campbell free-kick from close range.

And the visitors had the better of the second period, edging in front after 67 minutes when Hoskins fired home from the penalty spot after Jay McGrath had tripped Wheatley in the box.

Hoskins had another opportunity from a penalty after Close tripped substitute Michael Jacobs but Doncaster stopper Thimothee Lo-Tutala made a strong save.

Nesta Guinness-Walker lashed a shot off the post as Northampton threatened to extend their lead in the late stages.
