Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Callum Paterson scored as MK Dons beat Salford 2-0 in Sky Bet League Two.
Mendez-Laing’s penalty in first-half stoppage time put the Dons ahead, with the hosts withstanding Salford pressure before Paterson’s scored with a chip in second-half stoppage time.
Victory saw the Dons climb above Salford in the table in a clash of two of the season’s fastest starters.
Salford missed a great chance to score early as Kelly N’Mai hit the bar after Craig MacGillivray spilled Josh Austerfield’s shot.
MK Dons would win a penalty in the second minute of first-half stoppage time. Daniel Udoh was fouled Jack Sanders off th ball and Mendez-Laing rolled the penalty into the bottom corner.
Udoh would see a strike denied at close range by MacGillivray just after the break.
But despite having most of the possession, Salford could not break MK Dons down and they conceded again late on.
Alex Gilbey burst forward before laying it off for Paterson to chip Salford’s Matt Young for a last-gasp goal that sealed the points.
