Tom Cleverley’s Plymouth continued their League One play-off push with a 1-0 win over Stevenage, who had started the day in fifth.
Goalscoring Danish defender Mathias Ross broke the deadlock with a header which smashed off the underside of the bar from Ronan Curtis’ 57th-minute corner from the left.
The best moves of the first half both involved Argyle winger Curtis.
Curtis nearly broke the deadlock just before half-time with a deft ball in from the right which forced Boro keeper Filip Marschall to tip over his bar at the far post.
In the 30th minute Curtis headed just over at the far post when meeting a pinpoint Owen Dale cross from the left.
Argyle’s best move of the first half also involved Curtis in a pivotal role.
Playmaker Herbie Kane floated a cross in from the left, Curtis headed the ball back across goal and ever-present Malachi Boateng headed just wide.
Boro’s Matty Phillips fired over in the fourth minute and Harvey White followed suit two minutes later.
Boro’s best chance fell to Jamie Reid but he fired wide when one-on-one with recalled keeper Conor Hazard in first-half stoppage time.
Jamie Paterson fired just over after being teed up by Boateng in the 55th minute.
Marschall denied Ross a second with a 69th-minute save.
