Bromley made to wait for promotion as MK Dons win battle of top two

Bromley will have to wait to confirm their promotion to League One after losing 2-1 to 10-man MK Dons.

Victory for the Ravens would have secured promotion to the third tier, but Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Ben Wiles scored as the hosts won the clash of Sky Bet League Two’s top two.

Jon Mellish was sent off for the Dons before Marcus Ifill scored for Bromley, but the home side held on to grab a first win in five games.

MK Dons scored in the opening minute. Mendez-Laing intercepted a poor pass, charged forward and found the bottom corner.

Wiles hit a post from a counter-attack before scoring the Dons’ second after 16 minutes as he turned home Gethin Jones’ cross.

Mellish was shown a second booking in the 67th minute for a scrap with Omar Sowunmi.

Bromley halved the deficit seven minutes later when Ifill collected a half-cleared corner and thumped home, but in a frantic finale, the visitors could not find an equaliser.
