All-Star Limerick hurler Cian Lynch is set to become a father for the first time - to twins.

Dayna Slattery, girlfriend of the centre-forward and Cian took time out to post a picture on Instagram, with the caption "when two become four".

Patrickswell man Cian, who is 28 years old, has been an integral part of the Limerick hurling panel which has won five of the last six All-Ireland titles. He is a two-time Hurler of the Year, and if its in the hurling talent is in the genes, it could be ominous news for rival teams in the future.

Limerick are bidding for a record-breaking five-in-a-row this summer, and have started their Munster Championship campaign with wins over Clare and Tipperary.

There's been a huge reaction on Instagram to the wonderful news, with almost 8,000 people 'liking' the post confirming the news.

In this number were many of Cian's current and former Limerick team-mates including Peter Casey, Mike Casey, Will O'Donoghue, David Dempsey, Barry Hennessy and Pat Ryan.

Louise Cantillon, who last year married hurling captain Declan Hannon wrote: "Nuacht álainn Comhghairdeas libh xxxxx"

Niamh de Brún-Reid, married to Kilkenny star TJ Reid offered her congratulations.

Last month, Cian revealed that he met Dayna, who he's been dating for over a year, in the "old fashioned way".

"I saw her, I went up to her. The rest is history," he said.

When it came to saying the right words, he added he kept it straight laced.

"No cheesy stuff, no, I'd be straight up and honest. I'd be your old-fashioned gentleman," he told Evoke.ie

For their first date, he added they went to Lahinch for a walk along the beach and a swim.

A number of the panel are now fathers.

Goalkeeper Nickie Quaid, Graeme Mulcahy and Seamus Flanagan have children themselves.

Limerick's hurlers return to championship action this weekend with a tie against Cork on Leeside.
