Ireland to bask in 20 degree heat this week but experts give two word bleak update

Ireland is set to bask in glorious 20 degree heat this week as temperatures are set to soar and sunshine will dominate.

Wednesday and Thursday will see the best of the sunshine but experts have warned that more "unsettled weather" is on the way for the weekend.

Friday and Saturday will see more cloud appear while Sunday will see the return of scattered showers and lower temperatures.

In a post on X, Carlow Weatherman Alan O'Reilly said,

"We will be hitting up to 20c next few days with lovely sunshine but a change from Sunday with some more unsettled weather and it looks like to cool down next week as you can see here on the upper air temperature forecast."

Today

Dry and mostly sunny today, Tuesday, with just the chance of some sea fog near the east coast. Highest temperatures of 14 to 19 degrees, coolest near southern and eastern coasts due to a light easterly or variable breeze.

Continuing dry and clear tonight with patches of mist and fog returning. A touch of frost is possible with lowest temperatures of 1 to 5 degrees in a light easterly or variable breeze.

Wednesday

Another dry and sunny day tomorrow with mist and fog clearing through the morning. Highest temperatures of 14 to 20 degrees, once again coolest near east and south coasts in a light easterly breeze.

Dry and clear on Wednesday night with some mist and fog developing once again in light easterly or variable winds. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 7 degrees.

Thursday

Remaining dry and sunny, though a little hazy at times. Highest temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees in light variable winds.

Areas of mist and fog will develop overnight on Thursday, with some dense pockets possible. Otherwise remaining clear and dry. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees in light westerly or variable winds.

Friday

Mist and fog will clear for most early on but fog may linger near coasts. Generally a dry and sunny day but duller where fog persists. Highest temperatures will range from 13 degrees in the northwest to 19 degrees in the south in light southwesterly winds.

Saturday

A foggy start in places on Saturday. Another dry day but cloudier than of late, particularly across the west and north. Temperatures will fall back slightly with highs of 13 to 17 degrees in light to moderate southwest winds.

Turning more unsettled from Sunday onwards with showers and rain making their return. Cooler too with temperatures falling back to near average.
