Altnagelvin radiography centre 'on track' to open in autumn: Middleton

Health Minister Simon Hamilton’s confirmation that the radiotherapy centre at Altnagelvin Hospital is still on track to open in the autumn of this year, has been welcomed by DUP Foyle MLA Gary Middleton. Mr Middleton, a member of the Stormont Health Committee, was speaking after questioning Mr Hamilton about how many people would be able to access the multi-million pound during an Assembly debate this afternoon.

Mr Middleton said “I am delighted that the radiotherapy centre is still on course to be completed this year and that the filling of staff vacancies is progressing well.

“I took the opportunity during the Health Ministers statement to the Assembly this afternoon to ask him about the numbers of patients who will be using the facility.

“It was outlined that approximately 1150 patients in Northern Ireland will access these facilities annually with 350 accessing them from the Republic of Ireland.

“This new centre will assist many patients with what is a very difficult time in their lives.

Mr Middleton concluded: “This investment in the North West will no doubt help improve and save lives.”
