Anger at yet another delay to Derry-Coleraine rail upgrade

The latest delay in upgrading the Derry to Coleraine rail link will cause "consternation and frustration" in the North West, according to Foyle SDLP MP Mark Durkan.

Mr Durkan was speaking after it was confirmed the work, originally to start next month, has been put back to September, subject to a procurement procress.

£16.2m has been allocated to Translink for the railway upgrade.

Mr Durkan said: “I am deeply concerned that we are once again losing key months on such an important infrastructural project for the North West.

“There will be consternation and frustration in yet another delay in the overdue completion of this line upgrade.

“We should not have to consistently keep lobbying to remedy flaws and aberrations in investment planning and delivery.”

Mr Durkan concluded: “Danny Kennedy and Translink must know that people in the North West are concerned and aggrieved by ongoing delays and find it hard not to be sceptical when problems like this emerge.”
