Attack on Derry bus condemned

SDLP Ballyarnett councillor Catherine McDaid has condemned an attack on a bus in the Shantallow area on Saturday night.
A rock was thrown through the window of the 12A bus, smashing it, at around 10.30pm in the Bradley’s Pass area.
Clr McDaid said: “It is extremely lucky that nobody was seriously hurt in this incident that saw a large object thrown through the window of a moving bus, covering passengers in glass. My thoughts are with those caught up in this incident and the driver who should not come under attack when trying to do a day’s work.
“People in this community rely on these services to go about their lives, whether to school, work or for important appointments and to access services.
“This attack caused significant damage to this bus and we have seen in the past services removed due to anti-social behaviour. That’s the last thing any of us want to see here, causing great inconvenience to people living in this area.
“Whoever was behind this attack needs to wise up and get off the back of the local community.
“People should be able to use public transport without fear of something like this happening. I would urge anyone with information about what happened to come forward to the PSNI.”
