A man currently on bail accused of slashing the tyres of two vehicles has appeared at Derry Magistrates Court charged with criminal damage, assaulting police, resisting police and damaging police property.

Caolan Carlisle (29) of Tulach Way in Magherafelt was charged with the offences that were said to have occurred on August 29, as well as breaching his bail.

Carlisle was reported to police for reportedly damaging a window with a hammer.

When police arrived, he attempted to resist, allegedly assaulting an officer in the process and damaging a police cell van following his arrest.

Carlisle was on bail for a number of offences that were said to have occurred in June this year, including abusive behavior, harassment and slashing the tyres of two people, including his former partner.

Defence Barrister Peter Cavanan said that Carlisle had recently been suffering from severe ill health.

He added that the breach of bail only occured when he refused to partake in a PBT test while clearly under the influence of something.

Bail was denied and he will appear again on September 17.
