Bready Ulster Scots Pipe band promise ‘electrifying and enchanting performance’ in Derry Halloween Parade

One of the North West’s longest established music institutions will join over 700 performers and tens of thousands of spectators this Halloween night to take part in the Walled City of Bones Halloween Carnival parade through Derry city centre.
The Bready Ulster Scots Pipe band are promising spectators an ‘electrifying and enchanting performance’ featuring a fusion of traditional pipe and drum music interwoven with contemporary influences when they team up with festival regulars the Colmcille Pipe Band.
The parade, fireworks and drone display along the riverfront on October 31 will represent the climax of the four day 2023 Derry Halloween programme which includes the Awakening the Walled City trail through the city from October 28–30 and music and performances in and around the Guildhall.
"Playing in the Halloween Parade is a great honour for us,” said Band Pipe Major Darren Milligan. “Not only is it a first for the band but it's also a chance for us to showcase our rich Ulster Scots heritage to a global audience and to celebrate our music within our own city.
“We are planning an electrifying and enchanting performance along with Derry's own Colmcille Pipe Band and attendees can expect a fusion of traditional Ulster Scots pipe and drum music, interwoven with contemporary influences to create a dynamic and immersive musical experience.

Originally the Bready Pipe Band, they were formed in 1929 and have a long, award winning history of performing in parades and events.
Recent accolades include two of the band's drummers claiming top honours at the All-Ireland Pipe Band Championships and the band qualifying for the finals of The World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow.
They have captivated audiences with performances in the Massed Pipe Band at the Walled City Tattoo and represented the Ulster Scots culture at various international festivals.
“Participating in an international event right in the middle of our own community holds significant importance,” Darren continued. “With our rich history and commitment to cultural heritage, we hope to create a spellbinding moment for the crowds attending the parade.
“We invite everyone to join us in celebrating the unique blend of tradition and innovation that defines our music.
