Call for extra Budget money to go to Magee campus expansion

Extra money allocated to the Department of Employment and Learning (DEL) should be used to proceed for the expansion of the Magee campus of the University of Ulster in Derry, local Sinn Fein MLA Maeve McLaughlin.

Welcoming an announcement by Finance Minister Simon Hamilton that more money will be allocated to DEL in the final budget, Ms McLaughlin called on DEL Minister Stephen Farry to use it for the development of Magee (pictured above).

She added “The economy needs to have a strong university community which is producing high-grade graduates enabling the economy to grow.

 “I will however be pressing upon the DEL minister Stephen Farry that money needs to be allocated to the Magee Campus to deliver the expansion of numbers agreed in the recently delivered business case."

Ms McLaughlin added: “If we are to address regional disparities then Magee campus needs to be expanded and this money is an opportunity for the minister to demonstrate his commitment to that project.”
