Citizen's Jury to be held tomorrow to give young people the chance to have their say on the future of Derry

A Citizen's Jury, part of the Diverse City Community Partnership's Civic Activism Project, will be held at 6.00pm on Wednesday 12th April at the Holywell Building, Bishop Street.
Participants have gathered views and thoughts from young people in the city. At this event the evidence will be presented and there will be an exploration of how to create a city with youth in mind.
Gerard Deane, Holywell Trust Director, said: “This is the culmination of months of work, talking with young people through a range of different ways.
“We will present the evidence gathered from all of our discussions and have young people as expert witnesses who will present their thoughts and views on how we can change the future of the city. The jury will then vote on suggestions and recommendations, which will be passed on to decision makers in the city.
“The young people have told us that one of the key issues for them is mental health support – an immediate safe space for them to go to when they need a listening ear. Other issues are difficulties in finding a job and being stereotyped.
“We would encourage local young people to come along to this event as it’s an opportunity for them to be heard and share their views on how to make Derry/Londonderry a better place for them.
One of the young people involved in the event from REACH Across said: ”I’m really looking forward to the event and having the opportunity to air our views on how we make this a better city for young people.”
