Council to host Holocaust Memorial Day event

Members of the public are invited to attend an event being held in Derry’s Guildhall later this month to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.
Organised by Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Community Relations Section, the will give attendees the opportunity to consider those affected by the holocaust and subsequent genocides.
The theme for this year’s Holocaust Memorial Day is ‘Don’t Stand By’ and the Guildhall event will encourage people to challenge racism, sectarianism, homophobia and all other forms of prejudice they may encounter. Encouraging the public to attend, Mayor Cllr Elisha McCallion said it was important the Holocaust was remembered and that “we can learn from it as part of the work we are doing to improve community relations across our communities.” The event starts at 10.30am, the day prior to the official Holocaust Day on 27th and will continue through to lunchtime and will include lunch.
It will be held in the Whittaker Suite, Guildhall, Derry~Londonderry and booking in advance is required.
Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Bookings can be made by phone, email or post – [email protected] Tel 028 71253253.
