Kieran Mark McGaughey (36) with an address at Shell Bridge Park in Coleraine admitted a series of drug charges

Derry Crown Court heard today how when police called to a bed and breakfast in the city a man who answered the door had 'pupils that were pinpoints'.

Kieran Mark McGaughey (36) with an address at Shell Bridge Park in Coleraine admitted a series of drug charges including possessing class A, B and C drugs and supplying class A drugs namely cocaine.

All of the offences occurred in October 2020.

Passing sentence Judge Neil Rafferty said that police had called to the address at the Station B&B on October 30 2020 and McGaughey answered the door.

A search of the room uncovered drugs which the judge said were 'of personal use level' but a triage of the defendant's phone uncovered messages relating to the supply of drugs.

The judge said that the delay in the case was due to the fact that the phone had to be triaged.

He said the defendant had not co-operated with probation so there was no pre-sentence report available.

McGaughey was sentenced to two years in prison of which half will be served in custody.
