A man has been remanded in custody at Derry Magistrates Court charged with assault and possession of pregabalin.
Jordan McIntaggart (32) of Brone Park in Coleraine was charged following an incident in Derry Train Station on November 28 during which he was alleged to have taken off his belt and struck a member of staff with it.
The court was told that when searched at the police station, a number of pregabalin tablets were found on his person.
McIntaggart admitted to possessing the drugs, telling police that he would take a significant number of them on a weekly basis.
The court heard that McIntaggart was already on bail for an incident in September this year when he was said to have assaulted his grandmother over her refusal to give him money.
During this alleged incident, police again found a large number of pregabalin tablets, leading to his arrest on charges of possession with intent to supply.
Police objected to bail as they say he is at clear risk of reoffending.
Defence Barrister Grainne McAnaney said that McIntaggart 'obviously has a very serious reliance on pregabalin' and said that he 'fully takes responsibility' for his drug use but that he denied the assault against the train station employee.
District Judge Barney McElhom said that he had 'no faith' that McIntaggart would stick to any conditions given and bail was refused.
He will appear again on December 12.
