County Derry man handed sentence suspended after admitting fraud charge

A man who had 'a falling out' with his employer and quit his job then went and ordered more than £600 of copper in the company's name, Derry Magistrate's Court heard today.
Steven Carr (46) of Ballinrees Lane in Macosquin admitted one charge of fraud by false representation that occurred on March 14, 2022.
The court heard that Carr had an argument with the managing director of the company he worked for and quit his job.
He then took a company van and proceeded to a supplier and ordered more than £600 of copper sheeting and put it on the company account without authority.
At interview Carr made full admissions.
Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said that it was a 'breach of trust case.
He said that his client had a 'bee in his bonnet' after failing out with his employer and felt he was owed money by the company.
The solicitor said that it was an offence that was always going to come to light as the van had a tracker on it, there was CCTV and signatures.
Mr Quigley said it was' moment of total madness.'
Carr was given a three month sentence suspended for 12 months and ordered to pay more than £600 in compensation.
