£314,000 is be spent on revamp of the junction of the lower deck of Craigavon Bridge and Foyle Road (pictured above).

The work  will include making the junction more pedestrian friendly and improving the lighting.

Announcing the funding, Minister Storey said the junction was an "important arterial route and a gateway" to both the city centre and the Waterside.

He added: "However, it is visually unattractive, difficult to negotiate for pedestrians and cyclists and in need of repair.

“These works will make the area more user-friendly, particularly for all those who use the Riverside Walkway, by linking Queens Quay more effectively with the stretch along the Foyle Road. This work will build on the projects already completed by my Department in partnership with the Department for Regional Development, including the upgrade of the Lone Moor Road, Lecky Road Flyover and Rossville Street."

He said the works were in line with his Department’s continued commitment to the Foyle Valley Gateway Masterplan and to the achievement of the One Plan objectives for the City.”
