Culmore Road in Derry closed after pedestrian knocked down this evening

One of the busiest roads in Derry has been closed off after a pedestrian was knocked down this evening.

The pedestrian was hit by a car on the Culmore Road around 7pm.

The accident happened close to the entrance to Troy Park.

The pedestrian has been taken to Altnagelvin Hospital.

It is understood that they suffered serious injuries.

Police, pictured above at the scene of the accident, have closed off the Culmore Road from Pennyburn roundabout to Greenhaw Road as they investigate what happened.

Motorists are being urged to avoid the area.
