Derry GAA jersey presented to the Dalai Lama during historic India visit

Iconic red and white county colours reach the Himalayas during historic charity visit
Local traveler Greg McLaughlin has marked a historic trip to Dharamshala, India, by presenting His Holiness the Dalai Lama with a Derry GAA jersey.
The unique presentation took place on October 5 at the global spiritual leader's private residence, where McLaughlin was accompanied by Richard Moore, the founder and Chief Executive of Derry-based international development charity Children in Crossfire.
The gift serves as a symbol of the deep, long-standing connection between the Dalai Lama and the city of Derry.
His Holiness has visited the city twice in the past and continues to serve as the official Patron of Children in Crossfire.

Richard Moore’s close personal friendship with the Dalai Lama spans several decades, beginning after the spiritual leader was deeply moved by Moore's story of forgiveness and reconciliation after being blinded by a rubber bullet as a child in 1972.
Seeing the famous red and white Oakleaf county colours accepted by His Holiness represents another proud milestone for the city.
Reflecting on the presentation, Derry GAA expressed their immense pride at seeing the iconic jersey make its way to the foothills of the Himalayas.
"Well done, Greg," a representative shared. "That jersey has certainly travelled further than most!"
