Derry homeowners to receive new-look rate statements

Derry homeowners are to receive new-look annual rate statements.

From tomorrow, annual rate statements will show how households’ rate payment contributes to the provision of public services such as health, education and roads, as well as a range of other important regional services.

Finance Minister Simon Hamilton said the new annual statement - being issued throughout the North - “makes it clear” that rates pay for much more than bin collection and street cleaning.

He added: ”It provides a break-down of ratepayers’ contribution towards paying for important public services such as health, education and job creation.”

Simon Hamilton added: “This is another step, as part of my public sector reform agenda, to provide improved public services for people in Northern Ireland.

"This new personalised annual rate statement will, I hope, better inform householders about where their hard earned money goes and what their rates is contributing towards in terms of public services."
