Derry man charged with number of domestic offences remanded

Police drew their firearms on the defendant, the court was told.
A man has been remanded in custody at Derry Magistrates’ Court today charged with domestic offences .
Darren Dixon (30) of Carlton Court in Derry faced 10 charges in total including assault on a female, possession of an offensive weapon namely a screwdriver, criminal damage to a ring door bell and a TV, attempted grievous bodily harm to the dame female, resisting police and behaving in a threatening manner causing fear and alarm.
All of the charges were said to have occurred on September 18.
A police officer connected the accused to the charges and opposed bail. He told the court that at approximately 6.50pm on September 18 police received a third party report of an ongoing domestic incident. When they arrived at the address they saw a damaged ring door bell and blood on walls.
The alleged injured party said she had been on a video call with a friend when the defendant intervened and grabbed her by the hair and punched and kicked her several times to the head.
She also claimed Dixon had damaged various household items including a TV.
Dixon was said to have grabbed a screwdriver and threatened to use it before leaving taking the screwdriver with him.
When police located him he was said to be behaving 'in an aggressive manner' and police drew their firearms before making him go to his knees.
After being arrested police located the screwdriver on him and also allegedly a quantity of class C drugs.
At interview Dixon claimed there had been an argument and alleged the woman threw a glass at his head. He couldn't account for the injuries on the woman.
Bail was opposed due to the risk of reoffending as the defendant was on a suspended sentence for criminal damage involving the same woman.
Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott asked had the woman received medical assistance and was told by the police officer that police had 'verified' her injuries. He said that his client denied the charges but admitted damaging the ring door bell.
The solicitor said that the defendant could be excluded from specific areas of the city.
Bail was refused and Dixon was remanded in custody to appear again on October 15.
