A man has appeared at Derry Magistrates’ Court charged with a number of drug and driving offences.

Jack McGough (24) of Mimosa Court in Derry first came to the attention of police on May 26 this year when he was observed by officers out on patrol.

Police were following McGough's vehicle and signalled for him to stop. The court heard that he proceeded to drive erratically into oncoming traffic, failing to slow down as he approached a roundabout and evading police.

He later made full admissions to dangerous driving and failing to stop for officers.

McGough was also charged with a number of drug offences, including possession of Class A and B drugs, possession of Class A with intent to supply and being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs on September 18.

Police were attending an address following a search warrant and found a number of bags of suspected Class A drugs, scales, bags containing white powder and various other drug paraphernalia.

McGough was arrested and his phone seized.

When being interviewed, he claimed ownership of the drugs and said they were for his own use, admitting to being a heavy user.

Defence solicitor Keith Kyle said that McGough has no criminal record and that 'certain admissions had been made' in relation to both sets of charges.

Bail was granted and he will appear again on October 15..
