Derry man given probation for vehicle interference

31-year-old ordered to pay £350 compensation after smashing a car window with a hammer.
A man who told police he had been on Class A drugs for three nights has been given probation at Derry Magistrate's Court today.
Jonathan Casey (31) of Ballynagard Crescent in Derry admitted three charges of criminal damage, possessing an offensive weapon and interference with vehicles on December 15.
It was reported that someone was seen 'creeping 'towards' the injured party's car and smashing the side window with a hammer.
Blood was found at the scene and it matched the defendant.
When arrested and interviewed Casey said he had been on a three day drug binge but accepted causing the damage.
Defence counsel Stephen Chapman said that his client had been addicted to drugs for 'a considerable period of time'.
He said there was no motive for his actions other than he was not in his right mind due to the drugs.
Casey was sentenced to 12 months probation and ordered to pay £350 in compensation.
