A man has appeared at Derry Magistrates' Court charged with breaching his bail conditions.

Patrick Kelly (18) of Irish Street in Derry was on bail for breaching a non-molestation order and assaulting police in August last year and, as part of his bail conditions, was given a curfew.

He was arrested in the early hours of February 3 for breaking his curfew, his ninth breach of bail and second breach of high court bail.

Police objected to re-releasing him as they say it's 'very clear' he will not abide by his conditions.

Defence Barrister Stephen Chapman told the court that Kelly had fallen asleep in his granny's house at the time of the incident, adding that he was not breaching bail to commit offences.

Bail was denied and he will appear again for sentencing on February 18.
