Derry man stopped by police 'kicked off', Derry Magistrate's Court told

Colm McGuinness (33) of Carnhill in Derry admitted a charge of disorderly and also a charge of no driving licence
A man stopped by police 'kicked off', Derry Magistrate's Court heard today.
Colm McGuinness (33) of Carnhill in Derry admitted a charge of disorderly behaviour on August 1, 2022 and also a charge of no driving licence on the same date.
The court heard that McGuinness' vehicle came to police attention after it was believed to have turned away.
When he was stopped and told a search was going to be carried out he began to shout at police.
The court heard that this occurred in a residential area and police cautioned McGuinness for disorderly behaviour.
It was also discovered that the defendant had failed to re-apply for his licence after being disqualified.
Defence counsel Stephen Mooney said that his client had recently served 'a significant enough sentence' and a lengthy disqualification.
He said that the defendant had been dealt with for other subsequent offences and in some ways this case was one of 'sins of the past'.
The barrister said that McGuinness was 'trying to get back on his feet'.
District Judge Barney McElholm said that the offending was 'nothing out of the ordinary' and imposed a three month disqualification and fines totalling £325.
