Derry enterpreneur and RTE Dragon’s Den investor Peter Casey is set to run for a seat in the Irish Senate following the next general election.

The founder and executive chairman of Chairman of Claddagh Resources, a global recruitment and executive search business which has an office in Buncrana, had previously indicated his intention to run for the Dáil as an independent,

But yesterday he revealed that he now intends to seek election to the Senate.

“I want to make a contribution to public life and a role in the Senate would be more aligned with my skills,” he said.

Although based in Atlanta in the United States, Mr Casey (pictured)visits Derry and Donegal every three weeks.

He has also just purchased a house in Greencastle in Donegal.

In the past two years, he has been responsible for bringing three companies to Ireland – Arbour Pharmaceutical, Questcor, and Sciele Pharmaceuticals, which has since been taken over by Shionogi.

He will seek election to the nine member Industrial Panel in the Senate.

The Senate elections are confined to a limited electorate.
