Derry man who 'flagrantly ignored his bail conditions' was coming back from beach

Shane Coyle (26) of Kingsmere Gardens in Derry is currently on bail for charges of attempted grievious bodily harm, harassment and assault
A man who is banned from the city side of Derry as part of his bail claimed he only breached his conditions because he was coming back from the beach.
Shane Coyle (26) of Kingsmere Gardens in Derry is currently on bail for charges of attempted grievious bodily harm, harassment and assault that were said to have occurred on April 12.
He was granted bail on condition that he did not enter the city side, have no contact with his co-accused and not to have a mobile phone.
A police officer told the court that police observed Coyle and his co-accused in a car on the city side and followed the vehicle to the Waterside.
When police searched the pair they found a mobile phone on the co-accused but none on Coyle.
However, a search of the car uncovered a mobile under the seat.
Defence counsel Stephen Mooney said his client claimed he was coming back from the beach and had to pass through the city side to get back to the Waterside.
He was asked by District Judge Ted Magill why he was with his co-accused and why he had a mobile phone and Mr Mooney said he had 'no good explanation'.
Judge Magill said that Coyle was charged with serious offences including stamping on someone's head and this could result 'in serious life changing injuries or even death'.
The judge said that he was not entirely clear what was going on but Coyle had 'flagrantly ignored his bail conditions' and so he was remanding him in custody and he will appear again on June 12.
