Derry project creates links between different generations

A special project has been launched in Derry to encourage people from different generations to find out more about each other’s lives. Holywell Trust was the venue for the first in a series of Intergenerational workshops involving local women and younger people’s groups under the auspices of the Executive Office.
Over 30 young participants from Reach Across met with Galliagh Women’s Group and took part in various workshops involving role play, discussion and practical tests all with the intention of understanding each others points of view and methods of doing things.
Facilitator, Catherine Cooke, said she was delighted with the turnout and looked forward to the coming weeks with the group.
“The opening workshop was an insight into the thinking of the groups, not just as groups but as individuals and how they communicate with each other across the generational divide,” she said.
“I’m looking forward to the next workshop and further developing the links between the generations.
“We got through quite a bit of work in the first one and it’s important to build on what we’ve achieved.”
