Transgender day of remembrance

A number of events are taking place throughout today to remember transgender people who have lost their lives through “transgender hate and prejudice”.

November 20 marks the 17th annual Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR). The Rainbow Project, led by their transgender group Transderry, will be hosting a day full of events to remember transgender people who died and to promote a new transgender project in Derry.

A spokesperson for the Rainbow Project said, “Through TDOR we hope to raise public awareness of transgender inequality, and honour the memory of transgender people throughout the world who might otherwise be forgotten.

The day began with a remembrance service in the Garden of Reflection with Padraig O Tuama at noon.

A Walk of Remembrance to Pilots Row is also being held.

The launch of Transderry's photographic exhibition in Eden Place Arts Centre, Pilots Row will take place at 1.00pm.
