Florence Cullen (44) of Top of the Hill in Derry admitted a charge of driving with excess alcohol

Derry Magistrate's Court heard today how police observed a woman on a mobility scooter who turned out to be driving while over the limit.

Florence Cullen (44) of Top of the Hill in Derry admitted a charge of driving with excess alcohol on May 30.

The court heard that police observed Cullen approaching them on a mobility scooter and after she lighted they observed she appeared to be over the alcohol limit.

A subsequent breath test revealed a reading of 99 mgs with the legal limit being 35mgs.

Defence counsel Sinead Rogan said that the vehicle had been left by Cullen's friend and it was not her usual mode of transport.

District Judge Barney McElholm said that the reading was high and imposed a 16 month disqualification and a £250 fine.
