Derry woman fined following assault on cousin

Court hears hair-pulling incident in front of teenager was sparked by a dispute over alcohol comments.
An incident between cousins resulted in a local woman being fined at Derry Magistrate's Court today.
Nicolas McCahill (48) of Dellwood in Derry admitted one charge of assault on her cousin that occurred on September 11 2025.
The court heard that the assault was aggravated by the fact that it occurred in a public place and in the presence of a 15-year-old child.
The actual incident involved McCahill leaving a taxi and approaching a vehicle the injured party was in.
Words were exchanged and McCahill pulled the other woman's hair.
McCahill made full admissions to the offence.
Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said the incident was based on comments the other woman about McCahill buying alcohol.
He said that the defendant had issues with alcohol but was taking steps to deal with them.
The solicitor said that this was not a case where clumps of hair were pulled out and added that his client was 'remorseful'.
McCahill was fined £120.
