Discussions to install new traffic calming measures along busy Derry road

Discussions to install new traffic calming measures along a busy Derry road have begun.
The Department of Infrastructure has confirmed that it will assess how a box junction and other measures can be installed at the Buncrana Road/Springtown Road junction near LIDL.
Sinn Féin councillor for Foyleside Grace Uí Niallais said the measures are vital to improve traffic flow at the site: "Myself and Pádraig Delargy MLA have been lobbying the department for a number of months for changes to be made at the junction to address the huge tailbacks that often affect motorists using both roads.
"This in turn is creating extra pollution and inconvenience for local pedestrians and is also affecting local businesses as many potential customers are avoiding the area due to the congestion.
"We are looking forward to receiving detailed proposals from the department in the coming period and will keep residents informed as this process evolves."
