Leonie McLaughlin of O'Gara Villa's in Moville admitted being disorderly on May 29

Derry Magistrate's Court heard today how police responding to an emergency call stopped when they came across a woman lying in the middle of the road.

Leonie McLaughlin of O'Gara Villa's in Moville admitted being disorderly on May 29.

The court heard that as police were responding to an emergency at 2.40am they were flagged down by a man and saw a woman lying in the road.

They stopped believing she may have been knocked down but as they brought her to the footpath she started shouting 'tiocfaidh ar la' and 'up the IRA'.

The man said McLaughlin was seeking attention from the police.

Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said his client had 'drank too much'.

He said she had medical issues and that combined with the alcohol resulted in her behaving as she did.

District Judge Ted Magill said this was 'utterly unacceptable' especially as she had interrupted police responding to an emergency.

He sentenced her to 2 months in prison suspended for 18 months.
