Soccer fans at one of Dublin’s fiercest derby clashes dipped into their pockets last night to contribute to the Mark Farren fund.

Over €2,000 was raised as fans of St. Patrick’s Athletic and Shamrock Rovers donated to the fund to pay for the treatment abroad of Donegal native and Derry City legend Mark Farren.

The 33-year-old, who has been battling against cancer for a number of years, needs specialist treatment.

Since the fund was announced, the initial target of €30,000 was passed within several days.

Despite all the rivalry the soccer family has united to help out the popular Farren, who was one of the top strikers in the game domestically.
