East Antrim DUP MP Sammy Wilson said that Sinn Fein MEP Martina Anderson 'ranted like a fishwife' during comments she made on a hard border in the European Parliament.

Speaking in the European Parliament Mrs Anderson said: "It’s going to be a frictionless border.' Whatever the hell that means? Nobody knows. And let me put the record straight for everybody here. No border – hard or soft – will be accepted by the people of Ireland.

"What British armoured cars and tanks and guns couldn’t do in Ireland, 27 member states will not be able to do. So Theresa your notion of a border, hard or soft, stick it where the sun doesn’t shine, because you are not putting it in Ireland!"

Speaking on BBC Talkback Mr Wilson said: "Martina Anderson was ranting like a fishwife. That was far more offensive than anything Arlene Foster said."
