Farren support hits €30,000, but more is needed

Football fans across Ireland have shown their tremendous generosity as they have rallied together to raise the €30,000 needed for Mark Farren’s treatment, just three days after the appeal was launched.
However, the €30,000 raised is just the start of the costs facing the Farren family, who face a lengthy spell away from home while the Derry City legend undergoes his treatment.
Clubs in both the League of Ireland and the Irish League have joined forces since the news of Mark’s condition broke on Friday afternoon, and much-needed funds have been pouring in to support one of Irish football’s most popular ever players.
Farren’s third operation last month only managed to remove 80% of a brain tumour, and the family have had to look abroad for further life-saving options.
It is believed that €30,000 will cover the cost of the operation in a top medical centre in Germany, but the family needs the support to continue with costly living expenses expected to accrue during their time away.
Mark’s former team mate James McClean donated £1,000 to the fund while Everton full back and Republic of Ireland international Seamus Coleman has donated £5,000.
